You may have noticed a similarity in the name, and you would be right! This is our sister company Opal Sky Designs, our original side hustle and hobby. As artists, we both have lots of creative pursuits, so when we aren’t designing digitally we are designing and making jewellery and Macrame instead. As our first e-commerce site, we wanted the design to be a clean white aesthetic, against which we could display our intricate jewellery without distraction. We wanted the site to as UX friendly as possible, easy navigation and ability to search products were vital.

Featured products are a great way to get certain products in front of first time visitors to your page. Maybe they won’t browse your whole catalogue so you want to showcase the best of your collection, or maybe you just have a lot of stock and want to push one particular variant/product. Either way being able to alternate which products are held under a spotlight is an invaluable tool for an e-commerce shop.

Squarespace has numerous features which help with collating and organising your product catalogue. It is an incredibly useful tool and allows small businesses to grow and expand constantly. You can group products together in categories (similar types) such as bracelets and necklaces, as well as grouping by collection (similar styles). While setting up new products we also select ‘related products’ so that prospective buyers will see other suggestions based on their likes while browsing your shop. All of these features help to increase your potential yield and make sure it is easy for people to find the product they want.

There are a lot of considerations to take into account when setting up a new E-commerce site, a lot of clients come to us after selling through Etsy and other third party platforms. Often these other platforms have their own set of T&C’s, shipping options and features and if you are considering setting up your own site then remember this gives you complete freedom and control.
